Flamenco Vampires & Outlaw Space Cowboys
A short play by Asha Cornelia Cluer for We Are Quiet Roar
Flamenco Vampires & Outlaw Space Cowboys is a bilingual (English & Spanish) short play about identity, culture and belonging. It also has lots of dancing and silly jokes about vampires. It was performed at the Softly Softly Theatre Festival in Melbourne, Australia in April 2021.
“Flamenco Vampires & Outlaw Space Cowboys offers everything you would hope from such a title and more...(these) are words that present the same worries we all experience when taking on new relationships, talking with casual intimacy, and crying out from betrayal.”
“...a wild ride of science fantasy, starting with the outlawed vampires...I loved the imaginativeness of this work.”

Under the Sea
A full length play by Asha Cornelia Cluer
Under the Sea is a full length play that has been in development since 2018. It is inspired by the Sea Steading movement and imagines a world where technological advancement has allowed humans to colonise the oceans with seemingly high levels of success. Part sci-fi, part political thriller, this piece examines the meaning of globalisation and questions if political theory can ever really serve humans in practical terms. It is an ensemble piece featuring eight characters, including one very high-tech mermaid.
This piece has undergone a 10-Week development with Space @ Clarence Mews.
“It is a wonderful, terrifying thing to stand on the precipice of greatness. Looking out at your faces, people from so many different walks of life, different cultures, different countries, I welcome you to your new home. A place where you as an individual have value. Where you are no longer constrained by the corrupted land governments of the nation states created by the colonial powers of the old world, when they spat and bit and squabbled like petulant greedy children drawing arbitrary lines in a sandpit.
No more will we put up with these “democratic” ideals imposed upon us by the landlubbers who cannot see the future, no more will we watch the landmass of the earth beaten and torched and destroyed beyond repair when we here have the answer. The solution. For the blue revolution.”
